SÄRÖ
Särö (Girls' Rock Camp Association) is a non-profit and non-political association of volunteers that organises music camps and runs a band practice space. The association's activities are aimed at trans and cisgender girls and women and other trans and gender nonconforming people.
The association started its active work in 2012 under the name Girls Rock! Finland, officially Tyttöjen rokkkileiriyhdistys ry, and more commonly known as GR!F. Since then, the world around us changed and it was decided that a more inclusive name for the association would be appropriate. During 2020, a name competition was held and the winning proposal was Särö.
Särö was found to be an excellent name as it is neither gender-biased nor discriminatory. Distortion also has a clear connection to music, as a guitar or bass effect, as a vocal term, and as a distortion in the singing voice that breaks up a clean sound. Not forgetting the distortion of souls.
In the beginning of 2019, the association acquired its own office and practice space in Roihupelto, Helsinki, with the main purpose of supporting the continuity of the bands that emerge from the band camps. The training room is equipped with all the instruments needed for playing in a band, so that the threshold to continue playing is as low as possible.

BOARD OF SÄRÖ
The Board is responsible for managing the affairs of the association and representing the association. The Board is responsible for ensuring that the association's accounts are in accordance with the law and that the financial management is organised in a reliable manner.
The Association's autumn meeting elects a new Board every year.
